The project will add a boarding area between the current sidewalk and the curb to provide a more navigable path between the bus and the sidewalk, increase the space available for passengers on mobility devices, and make the stop ADA- compliant. These improvements will greatly enhance the experience for disabled or elderly passengers, which may result in increased ridership. The stop serves Omnitrans Route 2, which provides a link between California State University, San Bernardino, downtown, and Loma Linda. The stop is served by 16 buses per day. This bus stop location is noted in Omnitrans' accessibility survey as needing ADA compliance improvements. The stop is located in the University area of San Bernardino and is surrounded by single-family and apartment housing as well as retail businesses. California State University, San Bernardino is 1.1 miles north of the stop, thus the stop's location is ideal for students, staff, and faculty who might use Route 2 to access the campus. Housing complexes in the area include Silver Ridge Condominiums, Sunrise Apartments, and Mountain Gate Apartments. Also within a '/z mile walk from the stop are Bob Holcomb Elementary School and Lionel E. Hudson Park. Businesses in the area include 7-Eleven, Baker's Drive-Thru, Family Fish Market, and Dollar Plus Mart. AN ' July 30, 2021 Ginger Koblasz, Senior Planner San Bernardino County Transportation Authority 1170 W. 3rd Street, 2nd Floor San Bernardino, CA 92410-1715 Subject: Omnitrans Support for City of San Bernardino Application 2021 TDA Article 3 Transit Stop Access Improvements Program Dear Ginger, I write in support of the City of San Bernardino’s grant applications for 2021 TDA Article 3 Transit Stop Access Improvement funds. The planned projects will improve ADA accessibility at five bus stops by adding boarding areas between the curb and existing sidewalk. These improvements will make the Omnitrans service more accessible for disabled or elderly passengers, which may result in increased ridership. These stops are located on Omnitrans Routes 2 and 15, connecting San Bernardino to Loma Linda, Fontana, Colton, Highland, and Redlands. The five stops are served by a total of 77 buses and 8 passengers per day. The upgrades will increase the access and quality of transit service for residents living in the various apartment complexes and mobile home parks adjacent to these stops, as well as businesses such as CVS, Great Clips, and Econo Auto Service, and schools such as Bob Holcomb Elementary School and Kendall Elementary School. Two stops provide convenient access for students, staff, and faculty at California State University, San Bernardino. Routes 2 and 15 provide direct service to the San Bernardino Transit Center, which provides transit connections throughout the region. Omnitrans is highly supportive of this project receiving TDA Article 3 grant funds.
